Ok so today a friend for her birthday wanted to go to the Big Splash Adventure. Which if you read the title you would know that it is a indoor waterpark. Here is their web page if you are curious http://www.bigsplashadventure.com/ .

So this place is easily a 90 minute drive. So we get up early then we get ready and pack the needed things i.e. towels, dry clothes, etc. So we are now ready to leave we leave our house and drive to her house and pick her up. Then we are off but first we must stop at the bank to pay the car payment. Then we stop at McDonald’s for some breakfast. On a side note they have really good oatmeal. Now back to the story.

Finally we are on the interstate driving toward a city named French Lick, IN. Weird name but nice small town. They have a casino and an indoor waterpark and hmmmm that is about it. So we are driving down the I-64 doing roughly 75 miles per hour. Yeah I was speeding but only 5 over. When you get to the tell city exit you have to drive on this little 2 lane highway the rest of the way.

We are getting close and the friend whose birthday it was called her boyfriend to see where they are. He answered and said that they were at the casino but were heading out to go to the waterpark.

So when we arrive we go in and are trying to figure out first how things work. Finally I see a line that is probably selling tickets. We

get in the line and stand there for at least 20 minutes. By the time we get to the front of the line we figure out we are in the right line it was amazing. We pay for our tickets and walk into the park.

First thing that crosses is my mind wow this is a lot smaller that I thought it would be. This place is probably the size of a football field. They have 4 water slides adult oriented, a lazy river (more on this later), hot tub, kiddie area, and that is it. It cost 19.50 a person to get into and by the time we arrived there was an estimated 1500 people in the place.

We find the lockers to put our stuff in and notice you have to get a wrist band. So we go back to the same line as the ticket line and wait again. Finally get to the front.

Me,” I would like 2 lockers”

“We just sold out”

“ok so what am I to do with my stuff”

“well you can take it in with you or you can take it back out to your car. We are not responsible for any stolen or

lost items”

So we change into swimming clothes and I take the stuff out to the car. It is 39 degrees outside and I am where a T-shirt and swimming trunks. I am freezing. We go in to the park again and finally start to do things.

First stop the Lazy River. We get in, we get our intertubes, and start to float. The water is warm it feels pretty good. The problem is you can not move once you are in the River. It is packed. You try not to touch someone but you can’t help it. This river is made to just lay on a raft and float around. Why do KIDS insist on getting in there and running around it as fast as they can. It is annoying.

Next we do the slides. At least we did 2 of them the lines were horrible. Then of to the Hot tub to be honest this was the only thing that made this place decent, it is sad. So now everyone is hungry and there is only one place to get food in this place and the line is long. It took one of the guys 30 minutes to get a drink. So we are wet and all of our stuff is in the car. Once again let me remind you that it is 39 degrees outside when we left it was snowing.

We left  got something to eat and went back. You could tell though no-one wanted to return but when you pay that much and drive that far what else you going to do.

The wife and I had almost booked a weekend there, good thing we didn’t, and if we had we would be canceling it.

Not the Pros and cons

pros

  1. Hot tub
  2. free towels

Cons

  1. Horrible service
  2. To crowded
  3. don’t know when to tell people we are full ( I am sure there is a maximum number allowed)
  4. Parents not watching kids
  5. Lack of options (no store that sells towels or anything)
  6. Half the arcade game don’t work

Maybe I am being a bit harsh, but this is my opinion.

Ok if you haven’t been following I got laid off the day after Thanksgiving. Since then I have been sending out resumes and making phone calls, I look for a job for about 2 hours a day it seems that no one is hiring for what I can do. Even with all of this I haven’t had any call backs.

I have seen on the web where some people have been laid off a lot longer than I have been, have sent out more resumes than I have and are still unemployed.

If you watch the news they say the Economy is getting better. Now I would love to see where that is happening because it sure doesn’t seem to be that way in the midwest.

Oh well lets talk about some good stuff.

Today is the start of many new things to come. Today is the first day of school. I decided that since I am laid off I might as well go back to college and try to make myself worth a little more.

Let me fill you in on my past a little bit. I have been working as a Structural Detailer. This is where you take a set of engineering drawings (drawings used to build a building) I would draw all the individual pieces it would take to build that building. I would do this all on computer using various programs, including 3D modeling software. I liked doing this and I did it for almost 13 years. Then the work load just dried up from the lack of people building new buildings.

So even before I got laid off I was going to go back to school and learn a new skill. I am going back for Information Technologies. I love computers, everything from putting them together to making sure they are working properly. I can not say that I am good at it, but I can say that I am willing to be.

Now I am nervous about going back to school, but it will be over soon. I should graduate in a year and half, thanks to already having taken all of my general education classes.

So that is where we are right now. Tomorrow I am going to make some more phone calls in more attempts to find a job. I am not the type that like to sit at home with nothing to do I want a job and I am a good worker.

Until next time stay tuned to hear more from this unemployed male.

I am still laid off. I HATE IT!!!

Some people live to work and some work to live. I am the type that works to live.  So being laid off is driving me nuts. I used to work at least 40 hours a week.  Then the day after Thanksgiving I got laid off. It is now the end of December and I still am not working. I can’t really afford to go out and buy stuff or go places. So most of the time I sit here in my house and play Video Games, clean or just watch TV.

Don’t get me wrong I am looking for a job, problem is it doesn’t seem that anyone needs my specialties. I am a detailer of structural steel. Which means that I take the design drawings and draw all the pieces it takes to build a building. I have seen listing for jobs in other cities but we can’t afford to move as of right now. We have a house and family here.

I seem to be ranting on in this post but we must continue. I am getting better playing Black Ops. I want to take a vacation. I want to get a job but I can’t afford to take one paying less that I was making. I will continue to look and pray. I send out resumes it seems everyday, I know I will have an interview soon I just have to wait for the call.

For more from this unemployed Man you can read my other post or wait until I post again. Until that time have a Happy New Year and be well.

So it is time for an update. I have lost count on how many days it has been.

I am still unemployed and Christmas is 3 days away. By all looks it is not going to be a very good Christmas. We were fortunate enough to have most of the shopping done before I got laid off. So that is a good thing but it is not like most other Christmas’s.

This is supposed to be the happiest time of the year but it is not going to be that way this year.

I am confident that I will have a job in the next 2 months. I am not going to get an interview with in the next 2 weeks because of the holidays, so I have to be patient and I will be.

I have been watching a lot of TV and keeping the house clean. I have also been playing Call Of Duty Black Ops. Good game play the ending is a let down but it was fun and the online play is good. I also caught up on Sons of Anarchy all I can say is you need to watch this show.

Until the next post from this unemployed man I hope you have a merry Christmas.

Today is the first time in 15 years that I don’t have a job. I have been laid off due to a lack of work. First off let me say this is going to suck! Second I hope I don’t get into my head. Third I am going to have to find some stuff to do to keep me busy.

So the beginning of my story starts now!

I was working for the same company for going on 13 years, they ran out of work so they had to lay people off. Nothing they could about, our customers are out of work so there is no one we can get work from. Really it is just a sign of the time. They say the recession is over, I would have to disagree especially in the Mid-West.

I have already filed for my unemployment which they say can take up to 21 days to start receiving it. What could happen in 21 days? hmm. I can miss my house payment, car insurance, all the credit card bills,  and all the other bills. I can not buy groceries. If something bad could happen it probably will.

While unemployed I have the luxury of looking for a new job that is not going to pay nearly what I made at my old job so there for making things really hard on me and my wife.

I will get to catch up on things around the house, wrap some Christmas gifts and get the house ready for Christmas dinner, maybe work on the book I have been writing, play some video games, and watch a lot of Netflix. I would say hang out with friends but they all still have jobs. I figure that everyday that I don’t work I will write on my blog and keep the world informed I can write about what I do during the day, what our pets do while I am home.

Is this a bad thing to get laid off or a blessing in disguise. That will only be shown with time. I hold no hard feelings towards the company I worked for, I know that if they had the work I would still be there. The problem is that if you don’t build I don’t work.

So stay tuned for more on my “EXCITING” time of being laid off.

So as I was telling you in the last post I turned 31 the other day. I received may presents from my wife. We went to dinner with my dad and step mom, and then some of our really great friends. Dinner was a blast just hanging out and talking.

Angela got me a new messenger bag to carry my stuff in, a new golf bag, golf glove, iTunes gift card and stuff to put in my bag. She loves to call my messenger bag a “purse”. It is not a purse it is a MESSENGER Bag. Indiana Jones carried one it was a satchel.

Ok now let us get back on topic. Dinner was at Red Lobster for the all you can eat shrimp. I got my moneys worth, I ate 5 orders of shrimp scampi, and one order of grilled garlic shrimp. It was good, not as good as fresh shrimp but still good.

Saturday we got up, got showered and dressed, then we headed off for St. Louis to the Fox Theatre to see Shrek the Musical. It was fun, the make-up was amazing and we had good seats. I love the Fox

Theatre with all of the woodwork and statues. It has that classic feel that is amazing. That is the 6th or 7th time we have been there.

When we the Play was over I was in contact with Rickie, my friend who was looking after the animals while we were out, he said that the dog doesn’t like him and was scared and pooped all over the place. So instead of going out to dinner which was our original plan we decided it was best to head home to access the situation.

When we got home we had to do some light house cleaning, wash the couch cushion covers, and give the dog a bath. She was better when we got home she calmed down and laid in her bed. She had a rough day.

Sunday we were supposed to go to a Family Reunion for Angela’s family but we didn’t. Angela didn’t feel well and the house was in some dire need of some TLC. So we spent a couple of hours getting some cleaning done. Then to the grocery (where we spent way to much money).

When we got home Angela made some of her nearly Famous Veggie Soup. It was really, really good. Then we tried to watch “Old Dogs”, it wasn’t good.

As a Birthday Weekend I would have to say it was the BEST one yet. Might not sound all that great to you but I loved every minute of it.

While in High School I had this great teacher, I believe that a lot of who I am is because of this teacher. Mr. Larry Frazee had such an impact on my life that I feel like I have succeeded. Now I wasn’t the best kid in the class nor did I try to suck up. It took me years after high school to realize the impact he had on me.

One of the times I was not so good was when I was a sophomore and I was taking mechanical drawing. It is one of those class that teaches you the basics of drafting. Like all kids do we would stick notes on each other’s backs and laugh. The notes would say all kinds of things like “kick me” to calling someone a bad name. This went on for a while.

I was in this class with a lot of friends Chad, Eric, Eddie, Gina, Mark and so many more. Some of these friends I still talk today. So class is going on and it is normal we are working and goofing off. I stick a note on someone’s back everyone laughs. Chad walks up to me a dares me to put a note on Mr. Frazee’s back. I was young, I was dumb but I still knew better. The note I was dared to place on the teachers back said, “I am a FAG”

First off I don’t use that word anymore because it is inappropriate, mean, and just not a nice word but that is what the note says.

Chad dared me to do it and this time in my life I won’t back down from a dare. So I take the note I slowly walk up to Mr. Frazee’s desk lean down ask him a question all while putting this note on his back. (I was a stupid teenager). He answers my question and walk back to my desk, looking at Chad the whole way like now what. I sit down.

I am sitting there proud of myself thinking I got away with it, and I AM THE MAN. When I see him get up walk up to Mr. Frazee and pull the not off of his back. He leans down and tells him something. He stands up and walks back to his desk.

Mr. Frazee looks up and says, “Adam can you come here”

First thing that goes through my mind is thanks Mark W. for ratting me out. I stand up from my desk and walk the lonely road of shame up to his desk with my head hung low. When I arrive I say “yes”

“Did you do this?”

“Yes” I answered.

“Go to the office” he replies and hands me a referral.

I walked back to my desk grab my stuff without talking to anyone. I looked up at Chad and Chad just lowered his head. I walked out of the room and to the office. When I arrive I hand the referral to the secretary and she looks at it. Then tells me that I will have to talk to the principal. See usually disciplinary actions we handle by the vice principal. I started to think this is bad.

I walk into the principal’s office he reads the referral and looks at me and says, “I think this is funny but you are going to have to go home for a couple of days. I will call you mom.”

Great now I am in trouble he is going to call my mom. He calls and tells her what is going on and hangs up. He looks back at me and says, “She said to walk home, go get your stuff and come back here.”

So I do what I am told. When I get back he tells me the I am being suspended for 2 days. I walk out of the office and out of the front doors and head for home. While walking home, it was only 5 blocks, I start thinking what kind of punishment am I going to get. I arrive and walk in the door.

Mom ask, “What did you do?”

I explain everything to her. “Why did you do it?”

“Well Chad dared me to. I can back down from a dare”

“If Chad dared you to jump off a bridge would you” (I hate this question)

“No”

She then told me that I would have to apologize to Mr. Frazee when I got back to school.

The 2 days went by and I returned to school I walked up to Mr. Frazee and said I was sorry and that was that. I had him for 2 more years of high school and still stay in contact with him and he has never brought it up. I think he understood that I was a dumb kid.

The punishment I received for this was nothing, I didn’t get grounded, spanked or anything, the only punishment was that I had to take responsibility and apologize to a man who is special in my life.

Thank you Mr. Frazee
